New | For You & Your Little One

First samples of the mama and kiddo jumpsuits ready for garment dying.

As a small brand, I have the freedom to draw inspiration from my everyday life and design to my heart's content. It's an amazing freedom. To be able to flip through my sketchbook of doodles and decide which drawings to bring to life in a garment is thrilling. Nonetheless, I also take feedback and suggestions for new designs from my customers and circle of family and friends for new designs. What is most important for me is to create clothing that will be well-loved and well-worn.

This next small collection of Mommy & Me outfits is close to my heart as a new mother. There are only so many years we have to wear matching clothes with our children before they get older and have an opinion in their personal fashion choices. I imagine how fun it would be to be out and about with my little guy in matching outfits. At the same time, I designed the pieces for mom and kid to not match exactly in every detail, but to coordinate. This way, you can still express your unique style sense alongside your little one in a perfectly complementary outfit. The colorways are also elevated, sophisticated, in a palette that you'd reach for even for a night out on your own. I consider how hard your wardrobe needs to work for your life. Versatility is key.

The next collection is good-looking, that's a must. But they're made with you in mind. They're designed for the busy woman, the multi-tasking mamas, and seekers of elegant, versatile and comfortable wardrobe staples. I chose a medium weight, GOTS certified organic cotton/spandex fabric and had it custom knitted for my line right here in Los Angeles by a family-owned fabric mill. The finished garments in white will then be garment dyed in custom colors I created with a local dye house. Of course, the pattern making, cutting and sewing are all done here in L.A. as well. I have an amazing team of the best fabric mills, artisans, pattern makers, dress makers, and sewers behind this collection. I feel really good about keeping the entire process and sourcing of materials local to my community.

The new collection has been in works for about three months now. As of today, all the samples have been perfected and finalized. I'm gearing up for running production very soon and would love for you to follow along on Mien's Instagram @mienstudios. If you prefer Facebook, I'm there too. As always, shoot me an email or leave a comment if you have any thoughts or questions. I'm just a message away.  : )

The mama and kiddo jumpsuits after garment dying, shown here in moss green. Narrowing down the colorways for the collection is never easy. There are so many colors I love. For this collection, there will be three color choices, each created for easy coordination with other items in your closet in mind.
