As a small brand, I have the freedom to draw inspiration from my everyday life and design to my heart's content. It's an amazing freedom. To be able to flip through my sketchbook of doodles and decide which drawings to bring to life in an garment is thrilling. Nonetheless, I also take feedback and suggestions for new designs from my customers and circle of family and friends for new designs. What is most important for me is to create clothing that will be well-loved and well-worn.

This next small collection of Mommy & Me outfits is lighthearted to start. There are only so many years we have to wear matching clothes with our children before they get older and have an opinion in their personal fashion choices. I imagine how fun it would be to be out and about with my little guy in matching outfits. At the same time, I designed the pieces for mom and kid to not match exactly in every detail, but to coordinate. This way, you can still express your unique style sense alongside your little one in a perfectly complementary outfit. The colorways are also elevated, sophisticated, in a palette that you'd reach for even for a night out on your own. I consider how hard your wardrobe needs to work for your life. Versatility is key.

The next collection is good-looking, that's a must. But they're made with you in mind. They're designed for the busy woman, the multi-tasking mamas, and seekers of elegant, versatile and comfortable wardrobe staples. I chose a medium weight, GOTS certified organic cotton/spandex fabric and had it custom knitted for my line right here in Los Angeles by a family-owned fabric mill. The finished garments in white will then be garment dyed in custom colors I created with a local dye house. Of course, the pattern making, cutting and sewing are all done here in L.A. as well. I have an amazing team of the best fabric mills, artisans, pattern makers, dress makers, and sewers behind this collection. I feel really good about keeping the entire process and sourcing of materials local to my community.

The new collection has been in works for about three months now. As of today, all the samples have been perfected and finalized. I'm gearing up for running production very soon and would love for you to follow along on Mien's Instagram @mienstudios. If you prefer Facebook, I'm there too. As always, shoot me an email or leave a comment if you have any thoughts or questions. I'm just a message away.  : )

For this collection, there will be three color choices, each created for easy coordination with other items in your closet in mind.

Event / Patchwork Show - Long Beach

Yesterday we hosted Mien's first holiday popup shop at Patchwork Show in Long Beach, California. Being a Long Beach resident myself, I am always thrilled with the opportunity to introduce my small business to my fellow Long Beach neighbors and visitors to the area. It was a gorgeous day, unseasonably warm, but with the water just steps away from our booth (can you believe it? so pretty) we got a nice breeze throughout the day. The show got busy right from the start with many shoppers looking for unique and beautiful holiday gifts and something to wear for upcoming holiday parties - and what a perfect place to find that special something for a friend or family member all the while supporting local, creative small businesses like Mien.

The FAYE Jumpsuit was a big hit at the show with many people stopping to admire it and try it on (we had a fitting room set up). We sold quite a few of them with customers even coming back to our booth to show their friends our line. In addition to meeting our customers, another fun part of hosting popup events at designer craft fairs is the opportunity to also shop wares from other inspiring makers, and of course, sampling the delicious offerings from gourmet food trucks! Sadly, I didn't have a chance to step away from our booth at all until I was able to grab a fresh slice of wood oven fired pizza from the pizza truck at the end of the day (right before they closed shop, whew!) With the sun setting over the glistening water in front of me, a slice of margherita in my hand and sitting in a messy booth from all the customers earlier, it was the perfect ending to a busy day we've spent a lot of time preparing for. It was also the perfect start to an exciting holiday season for Mien.

To find us at our next popup shop, subscribe to our Newsletter or check out our Events Page. Hope to meet you at one of them soon!

Our way of saying thanks

The best part about receiving a package in the mail is opening it.

Even if the content is no surprise, the delight of finally holding what you've carefully selected from our store in your hands is something we want you to experience every time you shop with us. So we added extra touches to every Mien clothing & accessories order, such as the complimentary cotton dust bag we've included to protect your Mien garments when you travel.  There's also a hand-written note of thanks tucked inside. Creating small, unexpected surprises to go along with your order is our way of saying thanks for putting your trust in our work.

Into the Fields - Behind the Scene

For Mien's latest photoshoot of the women's collection, we trekked into the grassy hillside fields in Southern California. Fall was upon us and the once green sea of grass was a shade of caramel amber, the perfect soft backdrop for our neutral colored collection.

Mien X Grey Acre Photography

Mien's latest photos by Chicago based photographer Jason Sutherland showcase the clean lines and neutral color palette of the womenswear collection. A photographer with a keen artistic eye, Jason is also a recent law school graduate. His work evokes calm serenity and simplicity that elevate the subject at hand.

His creative process, in Jason's own words -

"I photograph feelings. I think vulnerability and openness are among the most beautiful experiences, and that's how I want my work to feel. Photography gives me a chance to slow down, and to explore emotions, and I think for a while, particularly when I was in law school and working overseas with law firms, I lost that. So after I graduated, I left.

I was on the road for a little while. I went to Chicago when a friend asked if I could shoot an editorial campaign for a new menswear shop. It's funny because I ended up shooting mostly at Northwestern Law School's campus. Full circle, or something like that. I didn't own a digital camera at the time, so I got to shoot it on a few different film cameras the way I was used to. Slowly. Intuitively. Simply. For the past year or so, I'd mostly been shooting portraits of women. Friends and acquaintances. But I always knew I was trying to articulate feelings and atmosphere. And that's how I shoot everything now. Personal and commercial. Portraits. Fashion. Test shoots. Weddings. It has to feel like something real, something that I've felt before. And that's the most important thing- I think we've all felt it before."

Welcome to Mien.

You are here because chances are, we are like minded people with similar aesthetics and endless aspirations for living a thoughtful, design-centric life. We just introduced Mien's launch collection. We don't promise to present five seasonal collections but instead, we opt to design and produce our pieces at a deliberate slow pace, abiding by a considerate design process to ensure that what we present to you at the end is worthy of becoming a part of your magnetic wardrobe. We work with the best factories right here in Los Angeles that produce garments for global luxury brands. We put a tremendous amount of effort into our work in hopes that the pieces we pass along to you will positively enhance the way you feel, complement the unique characteristics that make you who you are, and most importantly, reflect your mien.

Welcome. We're glad to meet you.
