From today until the end of the month, Mien will donate its entire proceeds from our website to RAICES.
Mien will also once again contribute to the Still We Rise auction, to be held from July 2nd to the 9th, with the auction amount going to RAICES, the ACLU, and a growing list of organizations championing human rights. To date, Still We Rise has donated over $110,000 with the help of supporters like you, and the maker community Mien proudly belongs to.
I am an immigrant. I immigrated to the U.S. with my parents when I was 16. I'm a U.S. citizen now. I love this country, and all the freedoms, opportunities, not to mention the very basic human rights that our nation provides that so many of us have taken for granted. I can only put myself in others' shoes, those who also dream of giving their children a chance at a better life, or for some of those parents, a chance to survive. Regardless of our personal stance on immigration and our political affiliation, what is happening to families at the border is inhumane and goes against everything we stand for as people of a free nation. As a mother, hearing the cries of the children calling out for their mamas and papas tears me to pieces. This is not right. Even siblings are forcibly separated once they arrive at the detention centers, yet another trauma inflicted upon the children. An executive order was signed by the President, but only after the immense pressure of global condemnation, but the order doesn't outline how and when our government will reunite the families again. We can help speed up this process by empowering organizations like RAICES and the ACLU to continue their work. There are many injustices happening in the world right now, it's overwhelming, I know. But for this cruelty to be blatantly carried out on our home soil is unacceptable. From one human being to another, thank you for your compassion.
